Our Past

Established in 1981 by well-known industry figurehead Rex Moss, The Rimoptics Group has grown to become one of the largest independent optical wholesalers in Australia. Since those early days, we have achieved excellent growth for our clients and ourselves, currently servicing 93% of the optical industry’s (independent) client base. Our growth in status within the industry can be attributed to the foresight of our management team, which includes our current Managing Director, Alon Cohen, who joined us in 1984 as well as Geoff Mantell, who joined Alon in 1991 as National Sales Manager, at a time of accelerated growth in our business.

Throughout the mid 1980s and early 1990s, we recognised that the Australian eyewear industry landscape was changing. Consumers were becoming more fashion conscious and demand for affordable eyewear was on the rise. During this period, specialist agencies were sourced and acquired, including Fendi, Laura Biagiotti and Emanuel Ungaro. Through these agencies/licenses, we have developed strong ongoing business relationships with three of the largest optical manufacturers in the world. In the early 2000s the group acquired the distribution rights for Persol optical and sunglasses, as well as the Byblos and Genny agencies.

Our Present

The Rimoptics Group continues to selectively acquire the latest product ranges, reacting readily to the market’s needs. Following our companies’ success in the Asia Pacific region, in 2011 the Rimoptics Group expanded into the United States market with Rimoptics USA. Running our North American operations from our national office in Los Angeles, we have expanded our product distribution and maintain the same key principles upon which the foundation and success of our Australian companies have been built.

The on-going success of The Rimoptics Group can be attributed to three key principles which our company abides by. Firstly, we focus on providing our client base with a superior range of products in tune with market demand. Secondly, we treat all our clients, regardless of size, in the highest professional manner. Finally, we maintain a company structure in which senior personnel are involved in a hands-on capacity on a day-to-day basis, with a strong focus on customer service and satisfaction at all times.

We pride ourselves on how we service our customers and the emphasis we place on meeting their needs and how that is enmeshed in our daily deliverables. In 2014 we were the proud and grateful recipients of ProVision’s prestigious Member Choice Award for Service, as voted by members, which is great encouragement for our entire team to continue striving to provide the best service in the industry.

We will continue to prosper, continually exploring new growth and acquisition opportunities, whilst steadily holding our market share and further building on our 35 year history and respected image within the market.
